Terms and conditions
- We request that all authors supply files in a format specified by us. If files are not supplied in the correct format we may be unable to proceed, and will make an additional charge for correction or re-formatting.
- In accordance with the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988, all authors will retain copyright of their own original work, including text, photography, illustrations or other artwork. SilverWood reserves the right to retain copyright of all design work.
- Payment for all services is payable in advance, in two installments. An initial deposit covering the pre-press portion of the fee to be invoiced and paid on signing contracts. The balance to be invoiced and paid before print-ready files are submitted to our approved printer. For larger projects we may offer a three installment payment process.
- We use reputable carriers for delivery of consignments of books, and always purchase tracking and insurance. While we reserve the right to avoid liability for damaged or late deliveries, we will make every reasonable effort to liaise with the carrier company to ensure a satisfactory outcome.
- We reserve the right to decline to publish a work that we have reason to believe is illegal or defamatory, or not the original work of the author.
- The author fully indemnifies SilverWood Books against all claims and proceedings brought against us on the basis that any material supplied by the author is defamatory or breaches the copyright of any third party or is otherwise illegal.
Our Code of Practice
SilverWood Books will deal honestly and fairly with authors, giving a clear pricing structure and estimated date of delivery.
Pricing structure will be based on the services requested by the author, and exclude any changes or additional services that may be requested by the author at a later date.
We will promptly acknowledge receipt of all manuscripts, either by email or post.
We will keep all authors informed of progress on manuscripts.
Our Publishing Agreements will be clear and comprehensive, defining title of the work, responsibilities of publisher and author, approximate timescales for delivery, scale of royalties.
We will specify FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified materials wherever possible.
We will ensure that all authors receive regular and clear accounts of sales made and monies due, passing on net receipts twice yearly where due.
This is not a Publishing Agreement but is provided for information purposes only.
If your manuscript is accepted for publication you will be sent two copies of our
Publishing Agreement. You should check this carefully to ensure that it is to your satisfaction,
sign both copies, and return one to us.
