ABOUT THE BOOK
An exciting supernatural thriller set in and around the North York Moors.
She screamed again, pure terror ripping through her. She turned, a kind of numbness hampering her movements, in an effort to gain the doorway and escape from the nightmare. She managed a few tottering steps, heard the beast's panting, turned to see the enormous head, wide open drooling mouth and those saucer-like eyes about to reach her...
Almost 2000 years ago, Judas Iscariot betrayed Christ for thirty pieces of silver. Over the centuries that silver has been melted down and wrought into satanic instruments, most recently a chalice, the 'Judas Cup'.
This unholy grail, which has been sought by many, fought over – even held in the Vatican vaults for a time – is once again up for grabs, and now there's a desperate race to find it.
Jake Ransome, fledgling reporter, is investigating several mysterious deaths, all linked to an occult ritual gone terribly wrong, and a church that will soon disappear forever in a flooded valley. How is the beautiful but enigmatic heiress involved? Why is her multi-millionaire mentor so intent on getting her back? As dramatic events unfold only Jake stands as her shield before such a powerful and ruthless man.
For Sir Nicholas Brookes it's a quest that can have only one ending. Already in a pact with the Vatican, he must now dance with the Devil... for the highest stakes of all.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Shaun Ivory has been many things over the years – telegram messenger boy, barman, airman, oilman, literacy aid teacher, instrument technician, instructor, planner, radio troubleshooter, GEC, AEI, ICI, MFI…well, maybe not the last! His writing career was kicked off by a one guinea postal order fee from Al Read, the Manchester radio and TV comedian. Moderate success followed with short stories, articles, speeches, gags, odes, poems, and in 1976 he collaborated on a TV episode of The Sweeney (sadly never filmed). In the 1980s he wrote his first novel Chainshot, a techno-thriller which featured a Soviet nuclear submarine commander who had chosen to defect and bring his prototype vessel with him. At last, it seemed Shaun was on the cusp of blockbuster stardom... until his career was torpedoed by a certain Tom Clancy and The Hunt for Red October.
Shaun lives near the North York Moors and was a founder-member of the local writing group. He currently contributes to Ireland's largest circulation weekly magazine. The Judas Cup is the outcome of a year-long novel-writing course at Leeds University. Shaun has just completed a third novel set in Ireland in 1943 and is currently working on a film script about the first black American fighter pilot, who flew for France in the Great War.
